Turkey Soup
Eric dishing up at our first Thanksgiving together as a married couple. (Nov. 2010)
Lucille "Teddy" Bartlett, 1960s
Turkey bones (from a turkey dinner from the night before, like the one in this picture!)
½ cup of barley
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper
Soak the barley overnight in water. In a large pot, add the turkey bones and the bay leaf, boil for 3 hours. Remove the bones and strain in a colander. Put the juice from the bones in another pot and simmer. Drain the water from the barley and throw it into the pot with the bone juice. Add salt and pepper to flavor. Simmer for 1 hour. Serve with bread and butter.
