Margherita Pizza
Julie & Eric Regh, Summer 2011
Dough:
Make the Pizza Dough for Baking, under Breads & Doughs
1 clove of garlic, sliced
olive oil for brushing
garlic powder
non-stick spray
Add sliced garlic to dough as you make it if you really like garlic (like us!) Let dough rise for at least an hour and a half, two for the best results. Spray pizza baking dish with non-stick spray. Punch/roll out the dough to fit on your pizza baking dish. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Brush dough with olive oil and then lightly dush with garlic powder. Cook just the dough in the oven at 425 degrees for 8 minutes on one of the top shelves.
Sauce:
1 can tomato sauce
1 can diced tomatoes
minced garlic
onion powder
onion salt
crushed red pepper (more or less, depending on how spicy you like your sauce)
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan on medium heat. Add more or less of each ingredient as you like.
Toppings:
mozerella balls (we get the ones soaked in oil from Costco and they melt really well)
1 whole tomato, sliced as thinly as you can
1 cup fresh basil leaves
olive oil
Take the dough out of the oven and top with the sauce and toppings. Bake again for 10 - 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and the sides are turning a nice tan color) on one of the top shelves.
